About Us

The Kennel Club of India (KCI) was founded in the year 1896 by the British and is the premier canine organisation in India. It is a society registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975.

The Kennel Club of India is a full member of the FCI (Federation Cynologique International) the largest canine body in the world and a member of the FCI Asia, Africa and Oceania Section. It is also a member of the Common Wealth Kennel Clubs and has reciprocal arrangements with all the major international kennel clubs in the world. Apart from this, the K.C.I. also has affiliated clubs in different parts of the country for the promotion of the dog game. These clubs adhere to a set of standards and rules to ensure that such clubs all over the country are administered in a uniform manner. These provincial clubs are encouraged to hold a minimum of two championship dog shows every year to give an opportunity for the owners of dogs in that area to have the qualities of their animals assessed.

Who We Are

The Kennel Club of India is managed by a committee elected once every three years from the membership of the Club.
On an average about 160 KCI recognized dog shows are currently held annually, in various parts of the country under the auspices and affiliation of the KCI. Currently, more than 65,000 dogs are registered by the Kennel Club annually. KCI records date back to more than a century old. It has on its panel, several international canine judges who are licensed to judge all over the world. The Kennel Club of India is perhaps one of the few Kennel Clubs in the world to have an ISO certification.
The KCI’s corporate office is in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India with an experienced staff, headed by a well-qualified administrative manager.

Vision
The KCI advocates the preservation of pure bred dogs through ethical breeding. It is the KCI.’s endeavour to promote the welfare of dogs with a commitment to encourage ethical breeding, organise dog shows, obedience trials and other canine related activities.

  3. Effect Transfers
  4. Licensing Dog Shows and matters pertaining thereto.
  5. To award Challenge and Championship Certificates and all Awards in the competitions.
